My Favorite Five Podcasts

In honor of International Podcast Day (and seriously, who made that a thing) and for anyone looking for new podcasts to check out, I thought I’d share my fav five.

  1. How I Built This with Guy Raz. The stories of start-ups, entrepreneurs and companies you’ve heard of and companies you haven’t. Guy goes deep into the journeys, the challenges, the roadblocks and the ultimate successes.

  2. Masters of Scale. Okay, I have to say that sometimes this podcast makes me crazy because the key takeaways are often contradictory. For instance, this podcast teaches, over and over, that the key to success is knowing when to stay the course and knowing when to pivot. Ah, duh but how do you know what time it is? Nevertheless, there are nuggets to be learned from some of the best and brightest business minds who are appear on this show.

  3. The Happiness Lab. There are days when I feel like Dr. Laurie Santos, the host of the Happiness Lab, lives in my brain as she wrestles the same challenges I do on her quest to live the happiest and most fulfilling life possible. Where do dogs fit into the equation? How do we have more fun? And, her fundamental concept that our brains often lie to us about what will make us happy so we need to be a bit more intentional about happiness is something I know to be true.

  4. Uncivil. The only thing wrong with this podcast is that there are not nearly enough of these brilliant episodes that tell the stories of Civil War that have been left out of the official history books. I binged every episode on a long Sunday drive. These are a must listen.

  5. Build Your Dream Network. So many lessons to be learned about networking in the digital age and so many lessons to be unlearned about showing up at a “networking event” with a stack of business cards. My dear friend J. Kelly Hoey deconstructs networking in this decade with stories of networking success and failure and lots of tactical advice.

And … bonus. I would be remiss if I didn’t include the podcasts that are my personal labors of love: The Weekly Walk, a podcast in which my husband Eric and I discuss and debate everything from lessons learned from the Stoics to lessons learned from our mothers and my Weekly Walk + Talks, where I’ve had the honor of walking and talking with everyone from US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy to actress Mariel Hemingway.
